The Don MacBeth Memorial Fund
Named in memory of jockey, Don MacBeth, who died of cancer on March 1, 1987, the Don MacBeth Memorial Jockey Fund is a charity that assists injured and disabled riders. The fund is co-founded in late 1987 by actor/comedian TIm Conway and Judy McCarron, wife of Hall of Fame jockey, Chris McCarron. TO date, the fund has provided assistance to over 1000 riders. The assistance inculdes home renovation to accommodate the use of wheelchairs, various types of physical therapy equipment, house and trailer payment and food, rent and basic living expenses. Most of your know the big name jockeys whose mounts have made millions on the racetrack, but what abot the little-know riders onclaiming horses or those who will never have the chance at a Derby mount? The Don McBeth Fund assists licensed jockeys or exercise riders injured on the racetrack in a track related accident, and who are in need of financial assistance. A thorough screening of each case is made before any funds are disbursed.
